About
Hengesbach Gallery represents original positions in contemporary art with an European and American focus. In various ways the program reflects the possibilities for artistic mediums and seeks dialog with contemporary cultural philosophy. Around 6 exhibitions take place every year. For more than twenty years, an intensive collaboration with artists, museuminstitutions and universities has formed the basis of an aesthetic understanding of art that extends beyond an orientation towards the market only. Ambitious publications and discussions with guests invited from the realms of art history and media studies enrich the theoretical discussions with photography, painting, sculpture, drawing and video.
In 1991, Rolf Hengesbach founded the gallery in Wuppertal. After a stopover in Cologne, he relocated the headquarters to Berlin in 2009. In the beautifully renovated industrial building in the gallery district of the capital, till 2013 numerous solo and group exhibitions of the 17 represented artists took place.
