Curated by MA Curatorial Practice Director of Curatorial Research Jovana Stokic, “Thank Heaven for Boys and Girls” is on view Saturday, January 16, through Saturday, February 6, at the SVA Flatiron Gallery, 133/141 West 21st Street, New York City.The exhibition, in the words of Stokic, “is guided by the students’ poetic inquiries in post-studio practices, urgent ecological concerns and their general gentle resistance to hetero-normativity in every aspect of human behavior. “Featured works include Santiago Chavez’s installation, which uses the gallery’s central support structure and ceiling to mimic the magic and awe of stargazing; Teddi Li’s paintings exploring her unconscious through the interpretation of a dream; and Lane Pope’s installation that stems from a collection of short poems and illustrations about her misunderstood and out-of-place characters.Participating artists include Daniela Arosemena, Sabrina Brundage, Santiago Chavez, Katya Fine, Alli Golden, Sarah Haege, Alba Hodsoll, Hannah Holst, Victoria Hristoff, Brianna Hussey, Jessica Kennedy, Brooke Latham, Teddi Li, Gabriella Moreno, Adam Mrlik, Emilia Musacchia, Dilys Ng, Ebony Noziere, Lane Pope, Spencer Razick, Casey Mark Schultz, Benjamin Lee Sperry, Julia Stoddard and Rachel Temkin.BFA Visual & Critical Studies is a multidisciplinary studio program designed to engage and challenge ambitious students in areas beyond a single medium of expression and creation. This dynamic course of study reflects our rapidly expanding visual culture and the increasing urgency to educate students about all aspects of visual experience. BFA Visual & Critical Studies students shape their own multidimensional art education through a guided combination of studio courses and academic offerings focusing on myriad forms and venues of contemporary visual life.
