LI BINYUAN – ‘DEATHLESS LOVE’ <<死了都要>>

Performance: Thursday 14 May 2015, 7pm

Part of Manchester After Hours 2015: One Night. City Wide. Free Events.

As part of Social Behaviours, Li Binyuan will enact his ground-breaking performance, Deathless Love to a live CFCCA audience as part of Manchester After Hours 2015, a city-wide evening celebration of Manchester’s culture, on 14th May. This will be a unique opportunity to witness an exciting work of live behavioural art; one that will interrogate ideas of artistic production while pushing the physical body to extremes of endurance, as Binyuan manually smashes over 100 hammers on a concrete plinth.

"Li Binyuan’s Deathless Love transcended the (performance art) form. Performance art became spectator sport as the crowd cheered each successive smash, lifting Li’s flagging spirits whenever he collapsed onto the concrete plinth." Brigid Delaney, The Guardian, Tuesday 20 January 2015

Binyuan will also be involving the winner of the competition from the Social Behaviours exhibition launch in a prolonged hug as part of a new piece of artwork.

On Thursday 14 May it’s nocturnal shenanigans with Manchester After Hours. This year’s mix of odd couplings and musical mayhem takes in the places and spaces you don’t often get to after dark, when museums, galleries and libraries join together for a one-night, city-wide social.
