Hi, Welcome to my homepage here at Artkey. I'm 45 years of age and, after painting landscapes in watercolours for a while I've now started to paint railway subjects in Acrylics. This has come about because, as well as having a passion for landscapes, I have a passion for railways and steam in particular. My brother bought me a book of railway artwork by Terence Cuneo and, from this, I thought that I would have a go. My portfolio shows three acrylic works, two of which are unfinished, where I've used railways as a subject. The pencil sketches are studies for future paintings and the landscapes are watercolour paintings. Hope you like them. Regards, Raising_Steam.

About my work

About work:

I have painted in watercolours but am now experimenting with acrylics. Two of the rail pictures uploaded are impressions of rail events that I witnessed as a boy. The first is of a diesel engine that was found to be derailed the next morning. The second rail painting is of a steam hauled freight storming up Greenfield bank on the loop line. Both are near where I lived at the time. The third rail painting - Jubilee "Glorious" leaving Oldham, Mumps - is an impression of how this route may have looked before closure in th 1960's.

The pencil sketches are studies for future paintings.

My style:

I haven't a particular style that I've noticed.

My concept :

Ideally I would like to improve my skills and my railway painting techniques to provide quality railway paintings.

I work with these materials:

Acrylics, watercolours, pencils, occassionaly pastels and watercolour pencils.

What kind of materials I prefer:

Watercolours as they're easy to use and create fantastic atmospheric effects.

What inspires me?:

Breathtaking landscapes and evocative steam trains/railways.
