It is said that tea was discovered in Ancient China when the legendary Wǔgǔxiāndì, the Emperor of the Five Grains, Shennong, happened to have a single tea leaf drift into his pot of boiling water. And just like that, without any pomp or trial, deep roots reached into Chinese life, never to lose their grip. In one infinite moment, layer upon layer of custom was draped over the daily lives of China’s people, where leaves swirl with jasmine petals and fingers tap, tap, tap on tables strewn with teacups.
