When we talk about speed we’re usually splitting hairs on the grand scale of things. We talk about the speeds of bikes and cars and airplanes. These are just quiet rumblings on the long range of possibility. Baby steps (if even that). Superman could supposedly fly faster than a speeding bullet, which would place him somewhere just above 3,510 kph. Looking at the broader picture a little bit, our earth orbits the sun at 107,280 kph. The fastest man-made object, the Helios 2 solar probe, more than doubled this when it hit speeds as high as 252,800. The speed signal of optical fiber is around 720,000,000 kph. If you ask most people what’s the fastest thing in the universe they’ll tell you the speed of light of course. At 1,079,252,848.8 kilometers per hour this is probably true, but maybe not. There’s something called planck speed, which refers to a speed beyond our measurement. When I hit the gas pedal I often have this in mind.
