We’re going down to the countryside where we don’t need buildings. Buildings were made to have a top floor and top floors aren’t any good. Young and formerly privileged lovers like us don’t find our situation bad at all, just the opposite in fact. Out here with the sunrise bird songs and the midnight crickets scoring the hot breeze. We’re just looking up at the stars and laying down beside each other trying hard not to get our uniforms too dirty. We were wrapped up in so many things but now, unwrapped, we’re free to smell the smells and adore then landscape. Whatever any of the Dazibao 大字报 say or don’t say is irrelevant when you’re knee deep in the countryside. Out here the only thing that matters is the land and each other. My love and I went down to the countryside one day to swing away the time and I don’t imagine us ever going back.
