I don’t know what this used to be or how it used to be used. I can’t imagine why people would’ve made all these objects large and small, smooth and rough, complex and simple. I like to speculate with my butterfly posse about how they might have gone about operating some of these machines. I’ve heard rumors and some solid theories, but the truth is that none of us know. They were gone long before me or any of the others were born. Rumors and stories is all that’s left of them- save of course for all of their stuff. It’s everywhere. You could fly in any direction as long as your wings would let you and not escape the landscape of old homes and things that they used to call their own. Even when you think you’ve gone far enough to escape the mountains of their junk you’ll soon find it’s still there, just under the grassy swaths that have tried to take it back. It suits us just fine, all of this. We’re free to fly about and make our home wherever we see fit.
