Noted connoisseur, collector, scholar, and art dealer, Dominique Lévy, founder and principal of Dominique Lévy gallery in New York City, is considered a foremost authority on the global art market and is recognized as one of its most influential figures.
Born in Lausanne, Switzerland, Lévy studied Post-War and Contemporary art history and politics at the University of Geneva, obtaining her B.A. in Political Science and her M.A. in Sociology of Art. She began working in the art world at an early age and quickly built a reputation for unique curatorial ideas and meticulous research.
Before settling in New York, Lévy lived and worked in Switzerland, France, and England at world-renowned auction houses and major private galleries, including Galerie Malingue, Paris, and Anthony d’Offay Gallery, London.
From 1999 to 2003, Dominique Lévy developed and ran the private-sales business at Christie’s, New York. As the International Director of Private Sales, she brokered the sale of major works of nineteenth and twentieth century art, placing many in important museum and private collections. In 2003, she continued to increase her influence in the international art market when she founded Dominique Levy Fine Art, a boutique art advisory service with a focus on building long-term relationships with collectors.
In 2005, Lévy joined forces with collector-turned-dealer Robert Mnuchin to form L&M Arts, New York. The gallery attracted acclaim for its comprehensive client services and commitment to historically important exhibitions exploring tendencies in modern and postwar art.
In late 2012, Lévy made news internationally when she announced the formation of her own eponymous gallery. Housed in the designated New York City historic landmark building at 909 Madison Avenue in Manhattan, Dominique Lévy gallery is devoted to innovative historical exhibitions of European and American postwar masterpieces as well as showcases of exceptional new work by living artists and special commissioned projects. The gallery, which also specializes in private sales in the secondary market, original scholarship and publications, and advisory and collections management services, represents the artists Günther Uecker and
Pierre Soulages, as well as the Estates of Yves Klein and Germaine Richier, in the United States.
Dominique Lévy maintains a strong connection to her native continent by traveling extensively throughout Europe. Her passion and dedication to the arts remains omnipresent. She is an active participant with American and European charitable organizations, supporting them with the same enthusiasm and dedication she has for her career.
