I am Stephen Kasle, the youngest son of Gertrude Kasle. This web-site has been created to sell works of art that were acquired through the Gertrude Kasle Gallery, or directly from artists promoted by my mother, and to give some insight into the wonderful experience that was created by Gertrude Kasle.
One of the art galleries carrying abstract art (modern artwork) from famous artists is Gertrude Kasle Gallery.
My mother started her gallery in Detroit’s Fisher Building in February of 1965. Her objective was to introduce to Detroit some of the most vital artists in the contemporary American art scene. She also felt that it was important to support the work of the artists whose work she valued. The greatest concentration of that work came from artists associated with the Abstract Expressionist Movement. Through the sixties and seventies, she dealt directly with such artists as Larry Rivers, Grace Hartigan, Philip Guston,
Robert Motherwell, William DeKoning, Jack Tworkov, Helen Frankenthaler, Lowell Nesbitt, Charles Pollack, Babe Shipiro, Robert Natkin, Al Loving, Adolph Gotlieb, Oli Shivonen, Claes Oldenberg, Gabriel Kohn, Julies Schmidt, Mike Todd, and Ed Giobbi. She was also associated with other galleries and agents, such as ULAE, to show and sell the works of Jim Dine, James Rosenquist, Jasper Johns, Robert Rauchenberg,
Robert Indiana, and many other artists important to the American art scene.
After she closed the Gallery in 1976, she continued to promote the work of young artists such as Elizabeth Murrey, Bill Jensen, Susan Rothenberg, and maintain relations with the artists she had sold through the Gallery years. She is still buying and promoting the works of some of today’s new talent.
In 1996, my brother and I purchased the remaining art and the name of the gallery from my mother. Thirty years has passed since mother closed the gallery. It is time for a reprise.
