About
Alecrim 50 Gallery opened November 2006 in Chiado, one of the most prestigious and vibrant areas of Lisbon. Under the direction of Alexandra Serôdio Gomes and Pilar Norton dos Reis the gallery focuses on promoting young artists whose projects demonstrate quality and innovation, developing a contemporary art program in various media: painting, drawing, sculpture, photography and installation.
Temporary exhibitions present these artists' work allowing it to interact with the gallery space and, at times, with other works. Alecrim 50 holds an average of six individual/group exhibitions each year with catalogue or brochure editions including text relevant to the context of the exhibition.
Once a year a guest curator organizes a thematic exhibition creating interesting partnerships between emerging and recognized artists, between galleries and antique dealers, between contemporary and modern art.
In 2010 Alecrim 50 created BLITZFORUM, a place for short term projects that completes the calendar of the exhibitions with small events. This way it can be presented from time to time, works of emerging artists, exhibitions in partnership with other galleries, curating projects, performances, video or photography.
Along with works by the gallery artists - André Almeida e Sousa, Bela Silva, Diogo Guerra Pinto, Domingos Rego, Francisca Carvalho, Inês Favila, João Decq, Luís Silveirinha, Luísa Jacinto, Manuel Caldeira, Marta Wengorovius, Miguel Telles da Gama, Raquel Feliciano, Sofia Aguiar, Teresa Gonçalves Lobo, Tomás Colaço, Tomás Cunha Ferreira - Alecrim 50 houses a collection by some of the most important names of the modern and contemporary art scene in Portugal.
Alecrim 50 has developed an Art Renting Service directed mainly at public enterprises and institutions, offering different possibilities of bringing Art into the corporate work environment and creating an image of innovation and productivity.
